Sir Rod Stewart delights fans at Edinburgh Castle despite adverse weather conditions

Sir Rod Stewart performed tonight at Edinburgh Castle Esplanade delighting fans with his incredible show, despite the rain.

The 78-year-old took to the stage to perform some of his biggest hits including 'Maggie May' and 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?' as part of his summer tour.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, fans did not let it rain on their parade- with many sporting multicoloured ponchos as they enjoyed the show.

Rod was also keen to help staff at the Castle, directing them with brushes as rain spilled onto the stage.

Concertgoers hailed the performer a 'legend' with one fan even taking to social media to write: "My mum's having the best time and her smile was worth the money I've spent on Rod Stewart tickets"

The singer-songwriter is set to play another gig on Friday in the capital, with thousands set to enjoy.

The weather is likely to stay dry for Friday's show and temperatures are unlikely to dip below 15 degrees.

Paisley singer-songwriter Kitti is supporting Rod Stewart at his Castle gigs.

The hotly-tipped artist was named best vocalist at the Scottish Jazz Awards and best female breakthrough artist at the Scottish Music Awards.

Earlier this year, Rod told BBC Breakfast that his Edinburgh Castle shows would mark the end of his rock 'n' roll shows, as he wants to take his live performances in a different direction.

He said: "My forthcoming concerts at Edinburgh Castle will be the last of the rock 'n' roll shows.

"I want to move on and I've always wanted to do The Great American Songbook live. It sold 38 million copies.

"I've also done a fantastic swing album with Jools Holland which is more Louis Prima than Frank Sinatra.

"I just want to make a change."
