Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has sent a heart-warming message to Lucas Leiva after he announced his retirement from football.
The former Reds midfielder announced on Friday that he would be retiring from professional football with immediate effect due to a heart condition. He has not played since December, after being told to take a step back from playing while his condition was assessed.
In an emotional press conference, Lucas explained his decision to retire from football, where he also paid thanks to his former clubs, including Liverpool. The 36-year-old had been playing with his first club Gremio in Brazil prior to his retirement.

“Lucas - I hope everything is OK,” wrote Dalglish. “The respect you have in Liverpool is truly genuine.
“We are all here if we can be of any help whatsoever, and we wish you luck in your next chapter.
“These pictures speak louder than any words. YNWA.”
Discussing his time at Liverpool in a separate statement on social media, Lucas said on Friday: “In 2007 I transferred to the giant Liverpool, which was part of my life for 10 years, and it is with great pride that I can say that today Liverpool is my home!
"I'm proud to be an English citizen along with my family, I'm a scouser."
