Sir Keir Starmer has warned that Vladimir Putin could “go again” in Ukraine without a security backstop after Donald Trump declined to promise that the US would be part of one.

The US President has resisted calls to fully commit American troops to peacekeeping efforts in Ukraine as part of a deal to end the three-year conflict.
