Sir David Jason would love to return as Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses one more time

Sir David Jason has said he would "love" to reprise his Only Fools and Horses character Del Boy one more time.

The actor, 81, hasn't properly played the role since the Christmas special in 2003, though he has more recently appeared in short sketches such as for Sport Relief in 2014.

He initially portrayed the iconic character on the popular BBC sitcom from 1981 to 1991, with various special episodes of the show then broadcast over the following twelve years.

And now the BAFTA winner has expressed interest in having at least one more adventure as market trader Derek Trotter.

The actor - whose other credits include A Touch of Frost and Open All Hours - made the admission about his Only Fools and Horses character in an interview with the Sun.

Speaking to the outlet recently, he commented: "I've always loved Del Boy, who is such a wonderful loser. I would love to revisit him, I need someone to write me a script."

He said it's "very important" that the show - which spawned a spin-off and a prequel - isn't forgotten about as it has a "huge following" and "fills in that need" for many viewers.

Jason described the series as "funny" and "amazing," further commenting that it's "an identity" for some fans - who may relate to the working class family at its centre.

Discussing them, he said in the recent interview: "They're just like the rest of us, a family who have ups and downs."

The cast of the series also included Nicholas Lyndhurst, now 60, as Del Boy's younger brother Rodney Trotter and the late Buster Merryfield as their Uncle Albert.

Only Fools and Horses initially ran for seven series. Eight specials subsequently aired between 1992 and 2003. There have also been several short sketches over the years as well.
