Sir Brian May left blown away by ‘eerie and strange’ solar eclipse in Spain

Sir Brian May has captured the "moment of totality" after watching the solar eclipse during a trip to Spain.

The 79-year-old witnessed the event on Wednesday from a viewpoint situated at the Javalambra Observatory site in Teruel.

Best known for Queen tracks such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Killer Queen, and Don’t Stop Me Now, the musician is also an astrophysicist, having finished a PHD in astronomy at Imperial College London in 2007.

Sharing updates on Instagram, Sir Brian posted photos and videos showing his preparations in the lead-up to the eclipse.

Arriving at the viewpoint, he said it felt “eerie and strange” however was a “beautiful sight”. He said: “Feels like you’re on another planet like you’re on the Moon because the illumination is so strange.”
