Singham vs scammers? Bandhan Bank brings Rohit Shetty for Cyber Cop mission

Bandhan Bank on Monday launched "Cyber Cop", a nationwide cyber awareness campaign under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme in partnership with filmmaker Rohit Shetty, as rising online frauds push banks and authorities to step up efforts to improve digital safety.

The initiative is aimed at encouraging safer digital behaviour and helping citizens respond more effectively to the growing incidence of cyber fraud across the country.

The campaign comes at a time when cybercrime is rising sharply in India. Government-linked data showed losses reported through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal reached about ₹22,495 crore in 2025, while more than 24 lakh complaints were registered during the year.

Cyber Cop comes as artificial intelligence reshapes the financial sector, bringing a fresh wave of fraud-related challenges for lenders. According to a survey by BioCatch, 84% of banking leaders in India reported higher fraud losses over the past year. The survey covered 1,440 fraud management, anti-money laundering (AML), and risk and compliance leaders across 25 countries, and found India to be among the markets most concerned about financial fraud and AI-enabled threats.

Separately, TransUnion's H1 2026 Top Fraud Trends Report found that India's suspected digital fraud rate reached 7.1% of all digital transactions in 2025, almost double the global average of 3.8%, highlighting the country's increasing exposure to sophisticated online fraud even as digital payments continue to expand rapidly.

Through films, awareness messages and public outreach, "Cyber Cop" aims to simplify cyber safety and encourage people to follow a simple practice: "Pause. Verify. Report." The campaign also asks citizens to report cybercrime through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and the 1930 helpline.

Rohit Shetty has joined the campaign to widen its reach, drawing on the popularity of his well-known "cop universe" films while reinforcing the message that cyber threats have become a part of everyday digital life.

"Cyber fraud is one of the most pressing challenges in India’s digital ecosystem. With ‘Cyber Cop’, we aim to build awareness that helps people pause before they act, verify before they trust, and report promptly," a Bandhan Bank spokesperson said.

Through the initiative, Bandhan Bank said it aims to support broader public awareness efforts and help individuals make safer decisions while using digital financial services.

Cyber Cop is a CSR initiative by Bandhan Bank, presented by Hindustan Times and implemented by Aident Social Welfare Organisation. The programme is focused on public awareness, safe digital behaviour and timely reporting of cyber fraud.
