Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong now receives £2.1m annual salary

  • Singapore is boosting ministerial salaries from 15 October, increasing Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's annual pay by 64 per cent to S$3.6m (£2.1m).
  • Prime Minister Wong acknowledged public sensitivity surrounding the increases and announced he will donate his salary increment to charity for the next five years.
  • The adjustment reinforces Singapore's position as home to the world's highest-paid political leaders, far exceeding compensation for counterparts in the UK and US.
  • Junior ministers will see an initial increase of up to 9 per cent, with potential annual earnings reaching up to S$1.8m depending on performance.
  • This marks the first adjustment to Singaporean ministerial pay since 2012, with salaries benchmarked against the country's top 1,000 earners.
