Singalong Encanto at Sunderland Empire invites families to join in the action

A sing-a-long version of Encanto is set to work its spell upon children during a one-off special at Sunderland Empire.

Set to bring some cheer to the autumn gloom, the matinee show - by the producers of the popular Sing-a-Long-a Frozen - promises to be a lively take on the 2021 animated film musical about the magical Madrigal family, with audiences very much involved in the action. Song lyrics will be shown on a giant screen so that everyone can sing - and even dance - along to the story and young ones are being encouraged to really enter into the spirit of things by wearing fancy dress too.

Sing-A-Long-A Encanto will take place at the Sunderland theatre on October 2, at 1pm, when a live host will be on hand to lead the singing, teach some dance moves and reveal how to make use of a bag of props which will come free with tickets. And full audience participation, say organisers, is essential as it's the audience members themselves who are the stars of the show.

The show is one of a number of one-night-only specials on Sunderland Empire's autumn programme. Ahead of it, the something-for-all line-up includes an appearance from explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes with his Living Dangerously on September 25 - one of three North East dates - which will see him talk about his record-breaking adventures including being the first to reach both Poles, the first to cross the Antarctic and Arctic oceans and the first to circumnavigate the world along its polar axis.

Then other horizons will be explored at the theatre by physicist Professor Brian Cox on October 1 whose stop-off on his Horizons World Tour will make use state-of-the-art LED screen technology to fill the auditorium with images of far-away galaxies, alien worlds and supermassive black holes, capturing a time before the Big Bang, during a discussion of civilisation and how nature can help give us a positive vision of the future.

To follow will be an Elvis-fest in The Elvis Tribute Artist World Tour on October 6 when American stars will be joined by UK Elvis competition winner Ben Thompson to honour the music of The King. Dean Z will be recreating the comeback era and Shawn Klush, who has been crowned The World's Greatest Elvis, is to take on the spectacular jumpsuit look.

Another one-off music night at the Empire will be celebrating the golden age of disco on October 7 when a live band and cast will take the audience on a blast back to the feelgood seventies days of the likes of Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor and Earth, Wind & Fire in the show Lost In Music - One Night at the Disco.
