Sing Sing Bakery review: We tried one of the best rated Leeds takeaways on Deliveroo

There are scores of places to order desserts and sweet treats in Leeds, mostly chains like Heavenly Desserts and Greggs.

But one independent bakery in Leeds is very highly rated. When I organised the Leeds options on Deliveroo by the highest rated takeaways, Sing Sing Bakery came out on top for the venues open at the time I searched.

From 60 reviews, Chinese bakery Sing Sing has an impressive 4.9 stars out of five on Deliveroo, and has a similarly high rating from its smattering of Google reviews. Located not far from the A61, the bakery serves up a variety of Chinese sweet treats and bubble teas.

I ordered from Sing Sing one afternoon to sample its offering and see if I enjoyed it as much as everybody else. I've not tried bubble tea or equivalent before so was particularly intrigued to try the sweet drinks on offer at Sing Sing.

I was told my order would arrive between 25 to 40 minutes after ordering. It was there in 20 - so I can vouch for the speed of service right off the bat.

All the goodies were packaged in bright red and yellow and branded with Sing Sing's logo. This was a nice touch - most of it seemed to be recyclable and made the food look even more appetising.

I ordered a selection of things from the menu, which included pastries, cakes, milk teas and more. I chose a red bean bun, a coconut and custard bun, a mango cake and a caramel pudding with milk tea.

The mango cake (Jasmine Norden)

I started with the coconut and custard bun, which resembled a bread bun iced with custard and grated coconut. I wish I'd saved this until last, because it was fantastic.

The bun was incredibly light, similar to an iced finger bun, which it resembled. The custard and coconut flavours were faint, but worked perfectly with the sweet custard and the bun that melted in the mouth. It was so light I had finished the whole thing in seconds - and was wishing I could buy five of them.

The red bean bun was of a similar texture, though it was shaped like a twisted ring with the flavouring threaded throughout. The bun was similar, but the red bean flavouring was much stronger.

This had an almost nutty taste from the red bean and went very well as a contrast to the former pastry I tried. I preferred the former, but both are equally light and moreish.

Moving on to the caramel pudding with milk tea, it was like nothing I'd ever tried - it had a very sweet caramel taste with hints of tea leaves in the background. It would definitely be a favourite for anyone with a sweet tooth but not so much for people who, like me, aren't big milk drinkers.

And finally, the mango cake. I enjoyed this - anything mango flavoured always feels refreshing, though this was denser than the pastries. All in all, the pastries were my favourite, but I highly recommend stopping by Sing Sing to sample some of their selection when you're wanting something sweet.
