A blood test due to be introduced by the NHS could rule out cancer for 500,000 people a year, with results in two or three days.
The system was developed by Dr Richard Savage, a data analysis specialist in Leeds who trained as an astrophysicist but switched fields after he fell ill with cancer.
He was 25 and studying for a PhD at Cambridge when he found that he had Hodgkin lymphoma.
