Simple '1p' trick that will keep your bed warm all night with no need for heating

Experts have revealed some simple tips and tricks to keep your bed warm throughout the night while saving a bunch of money for Christmas.

Sleep experts at Silentnight say you can keep yourself warms at night for as low as 1p. It comes after temperatures all across Greater Manchester and the rest of the country plummeted in the midst of a cold snap, with many Brits worrying about how they will keep warm in the face of the cost of living crisis.

An electric blanket can be used for just one hour a day. If this is done seven days a week, it would only cost £12 a year - this price could be driven down even more by using a mattress topper, Birmingham Live reports.

Sally Bonser from Silentnight said: "It’s no surprise that so many of us are looking for alternative ways to heat our homes. However, it’s concerning to see some of the methods people are turning to as they could actually cost them more in the long run.

"Turning on the fire or using electric appliances like kettles for making plenty of hot drinks, or hair dryers to heat the bed can be costly in the long run, whereas using an electric blanket costs just 1p to heat your entire bed. A lot of people also mistakenly think electric blankets can be unsafe, but Silentnight’s electric blankets are approved by BEAB and have a sleep safe guarantee.

She continued: “The bedroom is often one of the hardest rooms in the house to heat, as they are likely to have external walls and aren’t used much throughout the day. It’s important people know the different ways to keep warm at night without the temptation to turn up that heating.”

A yellow weather warning for ice and snow has been issued by the Met Office for parts of Greater Manchester, which will be accompanied by low temperatures throughout the weekend.
