Actor Simon Pegg revealed the terrifying truth behind his new Channel 4 show which centres around cyber terrorism, saying that all of it is based on fact or at least had been “war gamed” by those in power. Pegg made the comments on BBC’s The One Show when speaking to presenters Alex Jones and Roman Kemp, who seemed equally scared by the potential realities of cyber crime with the former calling the show “terrifying”.
Pegg played down his acting credentials joking that viewers may often associate him with comedies, and suggested if they were watching this new drama for gags they were going to be disappointed. The 52-year-old is starring in new Channel 4 show The Undeclared War alongside Mark Rylance and Maisie Richardson, which debuts tonight at 9pm.
It follows a team of GCHQ analysts as they try to block a series of cyber attacks, in what its creator Peter Kosminsky believes is a problem we’re all going to have to face in the years ahead. The Shaun of the Dead star is joined by Adrian Lester for the six-parter, which used a fake emergency broadcast in the style of Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds as part of the promotion for the series.
Pegg was accompanied on the famous BBC One Show sofa alongside former JLS member Aston Merrygold who was promoting his new single ‘How Many Times’, which is officially released tomorrow. Merrygold revealed the song is about the perils that social media can have on a relationship, with the pair sharing a gag about how their two projects overlap.
People seemed to be happy to see the Star Trek actor on the show, with @_betimoo saying: “Simon Pegg speaking about BTS on the One Show and I nearly jumped out of my seat”
