Simon Jordan has told the Green Brigade to “grow up” after they doubled down on their Brendan Rodgers anger.
The fan group shared an image of the banner they unfurled following Rodgers’ departure for Leicester City back in 2019. It read: “You traded immortality for mediocrity. Never a Celt, always a fraud.” In response to Rodgers returning to Celtic on a three-year deal this week, the fan group reiterated their feelings by posting a reminder.
But Jordan has told them to get real and get over it now that Rodgers is back. The talkSPORT co-host acknowledged that fans never want to see successful bosses leave, but the realities of football mean there’s always going to be someone offering more money and and a bigger stage. Jordan has challenged Rodgers to make more of a mark in Europe than Ange Postecoglou did, citing Rangers’ run to the Europa League final last year as a perfect example to try and follow.
On the reaction to the appointment, Jordan said: “He’ll have priced that into his thinking and they’ll have thought of that brand of resistance. If he starts losing games he’ll have a problem, but is there anything feeling Celtic aren’t going to be as strong?
“They are the fans that pack the stadium out every week and expect everyone to stay there until their last breath. Brendan Rodgers had the temerity to say ‘I’m off. I've been offered an opportunity and I’m going to take it.’
“They’ll say the timing was all about Brendan Rodgers but with all due respect, grow up. Every decision everyone makes is about themselves. He’s not going to do a Man City. What he can do is put up a better fist of getting two points and trying to make it out of the group stage. What he can do is if they drop into the Europa League, is punch their weight in that competition after the model was set by Rangers.”
