Simon Jordan shares Ange Postecoglou Celtic 'backbone' theory amid Leeds links in Steven Gerrard comparison

Simon Jordan can see why Leeds would want to speak to Ange Postecoglou, but doesn't think he’s ready to ditch Celtic for the English Premier League, unlike some of his Scottish Premiership predecessors.

The Elland Road club are on the hunt for a new boss after axing American Jesse Marsch on Monday. Postecoglou’s name has been thrown in the mix along with the likes of West Brom manager and former Leeds coach Carlos Corberan and fans’ favourite Marcelo Bielsa. Postecoglou has been linked with vacancies down south before but has batted them off, insisting he has a job to finish at Celtic and isn’t interested in moving on just yet.

Jordan likes the Aussie's attitude and isn't sure the Premier League holds the same appeal it does for others. The Parkhead post is Postecoglou’s first European gig, whereas Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard were dead set on returning to the English top flight despite taking charge on either side of Glasgow.

Both eventually did, with Rodgers leaving for Leicester City and Gerrard jumping ship to Aston Villa before he was sacked. But Jordan doesn’t see Postecoglou following suit just yet and certainly not right now if Leeds were to make an approach.

“He’d be someone that I’d want to talk to although I’m not sure this would be the right time for Ange Postecoglou,” Jord told talkSPORT.

“The tragedy for Scottish football is that managers see Rangers and Celtic as a stepping stone. As soon as grown up clubs from the English Premier League come calling, they want to make the jump, like Steven Gerrard did.

“I think Postecoglou is a bit different though. He doesn’t have the same relationship with the Premier League. He’ll have got the memo about it being the best league in the world, but he seems to have a backbone and integrity.”
