Simon Jordan opens up on Ange Postecoglou Celtic tip off

It's no secret that Simon Jordan is a big admirer of Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou.

The former Crystal Palace owner has regularly voiced his high opinion of the Hoops manager on talkSPORT alongside Jim White when discussing Scottish football.

The Australian has been a total success in the east end of Glasgow since his arrival just under two years ago.

He's on track to lift back-to-back Premiership titles and also has two league cups to his name. A domestic treble isn't off the cards this season either.

However, way back at the start of Postecoglou's tenure, the Aussie had several doubters.

But Jordan revealed that he received a tip-off from ex-Celtic and Scotland manager Gordon Strachan, who informed him that Postecoglou would likely come good.

Now, Jordan is of no doubt that Postecoglou is Premier League class - but insists he doesn't need to be in any rush to leave Celtic.

He said: "He probably wants to be discounted from that mention (Leicester), why would he want to be? He's top of the Scottish Premiership, a side who will be back in the Champions League next season. Why would he want to be in a relegation scrap with Leicester at this time?

"I think he will end up in the Premier League. I think he's perfectly capable of managing in the Premier League and managing in a position in the Premier League that isn't in a relegation battle.

"I think what he is doing what the job he was brought to do in at Celtic which was to turn them back into a winning machine, take the Scottish Premiership back from Rangers which they duly did and build upon on that.

"He's doing that and he will eclipse a lot of the previous work which was done, possibly, by previous managers. Brendan Rodgers being a particular manager who prospered after going to Scottish football coming back and managing at the aforementioned Leicester.

"I think he is one of those who have come in, given an opportunity. When he walked in the door a lot of people went 'Ange who?'. I spoke to a few people like Gordon Strachan who went 'wait and see, wait and see what this fella is all about.' I like Antipodeans, I think they come with a backbone, a culture, a little bit of respect about them.

"I think he was exhibiting that when he was indexed to the Brighton job earlier this season. He distanced himself pretty quickly.

"Again, if Tottenham were to come knocking on his door, which they possibly haven't, I think you would find himself were maybe he might become distracted at the end of the season, but, notwithstanding that, you still have the lure of Champions League football and will want to take Celtic deeper in that competition. They are going to win the league again, win it at a canter."

Jordan is adamant the lure of taking Celtic up another level in European football will prove hard for Postecoglou to leave in the summer, despite any potential interest from bigger and better leagues.

He added: "They tend to stay in the Europa League, it's the Champions League where there is a disparity between the competitivity they produce in Scottish football to what they do in European football.

"So it's significant, both teams hardly covered themselves in glory but Rangers were an absolute shambles in the Champions League. And Celtic were marginally better.

"The bottom line is you've now got into the Champions League, you've got an extra £30m being in the Champions League again. So you get an opportunity to go again. I think he's a very, very good manager."
