Former Crystal Palace chairman turned pundit Simon Jordan has questioned Tottenham buying former Nottingham Forest loanee Djed Spence in the summer.
The wing-back was a key part of Steve Cooper’s Reds side to win promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs last season during a loan spell from fellow Championship side Middlesbrough. Forest were keen to sign the player on a permanent deal at the end of the season, but faced competition from Spurs.
Antonio Conte’s side eventually completed a move for the full-back in the summer. But things have not gone as the player would have hoped when he first joined.

After playing a total of five Premier League minutes over four appearances so far this season, Spence is set to leave the club on loan on deadline day. Spence is closing in on a loan move to French side Rennes .
The defender had a number of clubs said to be showing an interest when he was made available on loan. But a move to France is now on the cards with the Ligue 1 club not having an option to buy as part of the deal, with the player still seeing his long-term future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Following news of Spence’s imminent transfer, Jordan gave his verdict, with a key question over Tottenham’s decision to sign the player in the summer market.
“I don’t understand the dynamic of that transfer, I know that Gareth Bale took a while to settle in to Tottenham Hotspur and was never played by Harry Redknapp. But this boy was fought for," he said.
“He could have gone to Nottingham Forest, he could have stayed where he was actually successful. He’s gone to Spurs and I don’t know what the purpose of that £13, £14 million transfer was.
“Antonio Conte dominates the proceedings wherever we go, can you imagine a situation where he has to sign a player that he doesn’t really want?”
