Simon Jordan believes charging Manchester City for alleged financial misconduct has “put the cat among the pigeons” in the Premier League. A statement released on Monday confirmed the top-flight champions have been slapped with over 100 accusations relating to breaching spending rules.
Points deductions, fines, transfer embargos and even relegation could be used as punishment if City are found guilty. Newcastle United chiefs have stressed the need to spend within the club’s means since the Saudi-backed takeover was approved in October 2021.
Sheikh Mansour’s acquisition of City was the first deal of its kind and revolutionised English football. In some regard, the scale of the spending at Eastlands post-2008 contributed to UEFA introducing Financial Fair Play.
