Simon Cowell reverted back to being TV’s Mr Nasty during Saturday's edition of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent. The shocking moment came when a woman performed with her English Springer Spaniel Bonnie and Border Collie Simba.
Ahead of her performance the woman, who was called Olga, said: “I’m really excited to be here. This is my dream come true.” Simon then asked: “What is your dream?” and she replied: “I’m going to dance with two of my dogs and I want to inspire other people to do stuff with their dogs. For me to win the prize is the dream I’ve always had.”
Despite her big ambitions, Olga’s routine didn’t exactly go to plan and her dogs continually ignored her commands. “Oh dear,” Bruno Tonioli said during the audition and all four judges ultimately decided to press their red buzzer. “I’m sorry Bonnie, I’m sorry Simba. That didn’t go great did it?” Simon told Olga following the performance. Upon looking at the two dogs he added: “Oh my God, I feel bad now.”
Amanda Holden then said: “I think it’s the first time in Britain’s Got Talent history that Simon has ever pressed his buzzer for a dog.” Offering her own thoughts, Alesha Dixon commented: “I hate to say it but I think Bonnie and Simba have more rhythm than Olga. There were some nice little tricks in there but unfortunately it didn’t quite hit the mark today.”
Convincing himself as to why he pressed his buzzer, Simon continued: “I’m not being rude but there was no dancing and I really thought for one moment they were going to play the instruments,” referring to a piano and ukulele that Olga brought to the stage. He then joked: “If I have to give you some constructive advice, Bonnie should go solo.”
In a final attempt to convince the judges, Olga said: “They can play piano properly,” and Simon asked her to show him. Unfortunately she told him that the piano she brought with didn’t actually work and was switched off.
“If you can come back with a piano that you can hear then you should come back 100%” Simon told her and she agreed before leaving the stage. As promised, later in the episode Olga and Bonnie return with a working piano.
Following their second performance, in which Bonnie does indeed 'play' the piano, Simon said: "I think that was unbelievable". All four judges decide to send them through to the next round.
Britain’s Got Talent continues on Saturday, May 6 on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm.
