AHMEDABAD: Vatva police arrested Abhishek Chaudhary, the manager of Sugal and Damini Utilities Services Private Limited, who was allegedly involved in transferring money from bank accounts by swapping sims.
Vatva PI H V Sisara said a complaint of cheating and breach of trust was registered by Dhiraj Adiyol in this connection. It was submitted that Rs 9.94 lakh was syphoned off from his bank account.

The complainant had received a call asking him for updating his sim and soon the amount was transferred to another bank account.
Sisara said that on investigation, the cops found that the money was transferred to a private bank account. The account was freezed. The account had Rs 5.63 lakh.
On further investigation, the cops got the information that the amount was transferred to the account of Sugal and Damini Utilities Services Private Limited in Gurugram.
Sisara said that a team was sent to Haryana and it was revealed that the company had 15 accounts which were used to transfer the money. Manager Abhishek Chaudhary was detained and brought to the city where he was arrested in the case. On the modus operandi, Sisara said the accused would call the customer who has good bank balance.
The target is then asked to upgrade his sim from 4G to 5G. In order to get good speed and better service, the customer would agree. Then the accused would ask the target to provide the sim number. “After getting the number they would get a duplicate sim issued and would activate it mostly on the eve of a holiday. By the time the person realizes that he has been cheated, the accused withdraws all money from the account,” said Sisara.
The cops are probing if the directors of Sugal and Damini Utilities are also involved in the sim swapping racket. The directors of Sugal and Damini utilities are Prasad Chand Jain, Nitesh Damani, Mitul Damani, Pravin Dhabai and Lalit Fafna.
