Silent disco in Newcastle Cathedral is set to belt nineties party tunes through LED headphones

In what will be a city first, Newcastle Cathedral is to play host to a nineties silent disco this summer, bringing the sounds of Take That, Whitney Houston and Spice Girls to the landmark building.

The cathedral will be illuminated on July 21 for the occasion when pop lovers will be able to dance and sing the night away to a soundtrack of iconic music from the era, heard through state-of-the-art LED headphones. They are invited to dress up in nineties clothes too for the over-18s night which will run from 8pm until 11pm.

The event, which is presented by Silent Discos in Incredible Places, promises a unique opportunity to party, retro-style, within the grand surroundings of the cathedral as the building is brought alive with very different music to the norm. It is part of a programme of entertainment now on offer at the cathedral which helps to raise funds for its upkeep and its charitable work.

Guests will be able to pick from three channels playing nineties feel-good hits and sing-along anthems, also including the likes of Oasis, Robbie Williams, Vengaboys, Blur, Madonna, TLC and MC Hammer. The company behind the disco has hosted similar nights in venues including Manchester Cathedral and Hereford Cathedral and now Newcastle is following suit ahead of other landmarks across the country, such as Ely and Wells.

Tickets, priced £23.95 to £29.95 plus a booking fee, are on sale now: see here For more information about other outside events coming up at the cathedral see here.
