South Lanarkshire Council say they are assessing repair works needed at a homeless unit in East Kilbride earmarked for closure.
Significant water damage was caused to part of Lindsay House Homeless Unit - the council-run one-stop-shop-emergency accommodation - after a fire alarm went off.
The service has been relocated to an unaffected part of the building say SLC.
The local authority announced in June 2021 that the under-fire homeless facility would be axed as the premises was no longer fit for purpose and did not meet the standards required for homeless accommodation.
As well as the emergency accommodation, the YPeople project is based within the unit which deals with people with complex needs, including addiction and mental health issues.
And businesses in the Village and nearby residents say they have borne the brunt of drug and drink-fuelled anti-social behaviour linked to Lindsay House over the years.
The council have yet to confirm a closure date for the facility and say work is still progressing to find a suitable alternative.
Rumours circulated that the site of the former Playbarn in Greenhills would be used for a new facility - but this was quashed by SLC with plans in place for new social housing.
Executive director of housing and technical resources Daniel Lowe said: "An incident occurred this month whereby the fire alarm went off and there was significant water damage to one part of the building.
“The building has been made safe and the repair works are currently being assessed.
“Emergency services were called but the situation was resolved quickly and was contained.
“The service has been relocated to the other part of the building which is fully operational and wasn’t impacted by the water damage.”
The council added, however, that the full closure of Lindsay House is still dependent upon suitable alternative services being in place and while this is being progressed, no exact timescale can be given.
Police Scotland said they had no involvement with the incident itself, which was dealt with by the council and the fire service.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted to reports of flooding at a property in Kittoch Street, East Kilbride.
"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the building.
"Firefighters successfully isolated the source of the flooding and made the area safe before leaving. There were no reported casualties."
