'Sign him up' — Manchester United fans send clear Ruben Neves message after transfer news

Manchester United fans are urging the club to make a move for Ruben Neves with Wolves expecting to lose the Portuguese midfielder this summer.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Wolves are considering replacements for the 25-year-old — who has been regularly linked with a move to United. The Old Trafford club, though, are yet to register a concrete interest ahead of the summer transfer window.

Arsenal and Barcelona are the only sides so far to have made their interest known. But it's understood Neves’ representatives would welcome an approach from United.

United intend to sign a defensive midfielder this summer, having been working on a possible deal for Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips. The position is a priority for United in the upcoming window, with Nemanja Matic announcing his departure at the end of the season, while Paul Pogba is also expected to leave.

Wolves boss Bruno Lage has suggested Neves will be worth £100million in the summer, although sources have dismissed that figure and expect the club to cash in for a lower fee. And United fans have begged their club to get involved in the race for the midfielder. This is what they said on social media:

Despite the fans’ wishes, United have been left irritated by speculation surrounding certain players based in or from Portugal over the years. That hasn’t stopped them from making those additions though.

Although United tired of reports about Victor Lindelof midway through the 2016-17 season, they eventually signed the defender from Benfica in June 2017. The club were also irate at the coverage in the Portuguese media about their interest in Bruno Fernandes in the summer of 2019.

United had no intention of moving for Fernandes in the summer window and were convinced Sporting Lisbon were using United to whip up an auction. Tottenham soon sent two intermediaries to Lisbon to gauge the possibility of a deal for Fernandes in August 2019 before he joined United five months later.
