Side-stepping Welsh teenager who trains five times a week is filmed scoring brilliant length-of-the-field try

When you're related to double Wales Grand Slam winner Huw Bennett, there may be a tad bit of pressure on you to do well if you start playing rugby.

Cut to teenager Charlie Bennett deciding to run the entire length of the field for an amazing score. That will do won't it, Huw?

Last Saturday, East Wales faced West Wales Raiders in Wales Rugby League. The young Bennett earned his second cap for East Wales as he helped them to a 34-16 victory. Going on a barnstorming run and scoring a magnificent try will certainly settle the nerves in your second match, that's for sure.

He picked up the ball from the back of a scrum, with his side wedged deep into their own half, sitting uncomfortably on the 22. The Ebbw Vale boy ignited his run with a fantastic side-step as he eased away from the first defender. The legs started pumping as he deciphered his next spot of evasion.

The hot-stepper checked back inside, leaving would-be tacklers in his wake with the whitewash in his sights. He then changed direction once more as he eyed up the try line, and it was just a case of keeping the afterburners on as he hared in to complete a fantastic score.

After earning his second cap, Bennett and his team-mates paraded around the field at half time between Wales under 16s and England under 16s, which "made them all so proud".

It also turns out he is already a dual-coder, playing rugby union for Beaufort under 14s in Ebbw Vale, who his father Justin coaches.

"Just so proud of Charlie, what a few weeks it's been," his dad said. "Having won the plate final in the Dragons Cup against Blackwood where he was captain, then to be picked as player of the year, to scoring that fantastic try and earning his rugby league cap.

"He's trained really hard, credit where it's due. He's trained five times a week with doing both league and union sessions. As a family we are very proud of him."

Rugby seems to be a mainstay in the Bennett family, as - aside from Huw - Charlie's father Justin gained his Gwent cap, played Welsh districts and made more than 400 appearances for Beaufort. Justin and Huw's grandfathers were brothers.

Huw, of course, was in the Wales front row as Warren Gatland's side won the Grand Slam in 2008 and 2012. He'd certainly have been proud of such a score himself!
