'Sickened' Jack Butland blasted over 'horrendous' Kyogo strike goalkeeping

Jack Butland has been heavily criticised over his role in Rangers' 3-0 defeat to Celtic at Parkhead.

The England internationalist looked suspect for two of the three goals Brendan Rodgers' men scored.

The first, from Daizen Maeda, appeared to go straight through the £12m rated keeper while the second from Kyogo looked to come from bad positioning.

While Butland could do nothing about the third from Callum McGregor's unstoppable deflected shot, fans took to social media platform X to vent their fury at the goalkeeper's performance.

One fan assessed the image at the head of this article and said: "I’m no goalkeeper coach. But that is horrendous."

Another stated: "Easy to jump on certain players backs. The likes of Dessers etc. which I’m guilty of. But doesn’t matter who you are, if you’re poor you deserve the criticism, Jack Butland has been terrible."

One added: "Jack Butland has been absolutely awful since he didn’t get an England call up."

Butland earlier told Rangers TV he was sickened by the result after a good start to the game gave his team hope they could get an unlikely result.

He said: "It's sickening to be honest. We made a good start to the game, created some good early chances and showed some confidence on the ball to create things. But we didn't get an early goal that would do something for us here.

"When you give away opportunities from scenarios that we were in control of, they take them and we are trying to find a way back into the game. So it hurts and we are all disappointed in there, none more so than me. We have got a couple of weeks to dwell on this now, which is not going to be easy but we need to get back out on the pitch to get a win and learn from today.

"I don't want it to become familiar as it is doing my head in to be honest because I know what we can do. There is enough in this squad to get results but we are not giving ourselves the best opportunities to do that. That is on all of us so we gave got to look at it and get better for it. I'm sure the fans are as frustrated as we are."
