Sick horse found dead in north Dublin

A sick horse was found dead last night in north Dublin.

A member of the public discovered the horse in difficulty in the Dunsink area, which links Finlgas and Castleknock, on Sunday evening.

My Lovely Horse Rescue shared an upsetting photo of the horse with a graphic warning to social media viewers and an impassioned plea for more government support.

They said: “A kind member of the public got in contact with us after discovering a horse in difficulty at Dunsink.

"Where were the authorities, the official Government funded rescue? That’s right, they don’t work weekends!

“Meanwhile, this poor horse was left to die until we stepped in with the support of locals.

“The government funded agency that repeatedly talk about a ‘five year plan’, where was your five year plan tonight when this two year old filly, a baby was left to die in a field you promised there would be change in?

“How many more have to die before enough is enough?”

The charity is asking the public to contact their local councillors and TDs and demand that issues with horses in the area are addressed immediately.

They also thanked to the kindhearted man who saved the horse.

They said: “Thank you for everything you done for this horse last night.

“The empathy and compassion you showed her in her final hours was just heartwarming.

“This wasn’t a ‘tragic accident’ this was neglect over a period of time. This horse deserved more she had a life worth living.

My Lovely Horse Rescue also urged the public to contact them any time.

They told Dublin Live: "The important part is that we were the rescue contacted by the member of the public because we are a 24/7 service.

"We called out a vet to assess the horse, we were willing to drive and collect the horse if there was any chance of saving her but she was too far gone.

"We are picking up that bill unless the council would like to step up and sort this mess out once and for all. This is not first horse we've had to do this for in Dunsink and it won't be the last with the present lack of initiative from the authorities."
