West Coast captain Luke Shuey is adamant coach Adam Simpson is the right man to lead the club's rebuild.
The pressure on Simpson and his players is building following last Friday's 109-point loss to Richmond.
That defeat followed capitulations at the hands of Sydney (63 points) and Port Adelaide (84 points), leaving West Coast on the bottom of the ladder with a 1-6 record.
Mass injuries and a devastating COVID-19 wave ruined West Coast's hopes of having one last crack at a flag with its current ageing group.
But the drop-off in form of some of the club's long-term stars has been alarming.
Compounding the team's woes is the fact West Coast haven't had a top-10 draft pick since snaring Andrew Gaff in 2010, leaving the club with little top-end talent among their youngsters.
Simpson has led West Coast to finals action in six of his completed eight seasons, with that period including the 2015 grand final loss to Hawthorn and the 2018 flag win over Collingwood.
The former North Melbourne skipper is contracted to West Coast until the end of 2024, and Shuey says Simpson is the right man to lead the club out of its current predicament.
"One hundred per cent," Shuey said.
"I've seen him get us out of a few ruts over the years. He's been a pretty successful coach.
"This is probably the toughest period of his coaching career, and it's probably the toughest period of a lot of our playing careers.
"That doesn't mean you have to reinvent the wheel.
"We've got to find new ways of doing things, but I don't think that always means new personnel.
"Everyone we've got on board at the club at the moment, we're fully confident in."
Shuey experienced West Coast's last rebuild from 2008-2010.
The Eagles finished bottom of the ladder in 2010 but rebounded the following year to make the preliminary final.
"I remember thinking if I was to read into what others were saying about us, we wouldn't have turned it around as quickly as what we did," Shuey said.
"People can talk about rebuilds and getting new players in as much as they want.
"Even with Melbourne two years ago they didn't' make finals ... and they won a premiership a year later quite convincingly. Things can turn quick ... and that's what we're hoping will happen."
West Coast could be in for some more pain when they tackle Brisbane at the Gabba this Saturday night before hosting defending premiers Melbourne a week later.
Eagles duo Jackson Nelson and Alex Witherden have been forced into COVID-19 protocols, while Willie Rioli (hamstring), Xavier O'Neill (knee), and Elliot Yeo (concussion) are under injury clouds.
