Manchester United are very much in the firing line from all corners of the footballing world at the moment, but have received a taunt from the unlikeliest of source in the form of Shrewsbury Town.
Ralf Rangnick's side were put to the sword by fierce rivals Liverpool on Tuesday as the Reds ran riot at Anfield and put four past United with no reply. Goals from Luis Diaz and a brace from Mohamed Salah either side of Sadio Mane's strike ensured Liverpool registered yet another rampant victory over United.
United looked so far off the pace, which in turn prompted one Red Devils fan to tweet how the quality of their performance was the kind you'd expect of League One side Shrewsbury. Refusing to take this jab lying down, the club's official Twitter account responded with: "We scored at Anfield this season. You didn't. Levels."
The reply is in reference to when the Salops made the trip to Merseyside earlier this season for the third round of the FA Cup. Jurgen Klopp's men ran out eventual 4-1 winners, but did find themselves a goal down after 27 minutes.
This was more than United could muster as the likes of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes failed to make any kind of meaningful impact on the tie. United let the first 45 minutes pass them by without so much as even having a shot on goal.
The contest finished with United boasting a feeble two shots on goal and 28% possession as Liverpool made sure the gulf in quality between the two sides was on full display. The Red Devils spent much of the game chasing shadows.

United legend Gary Neville said as much after the full-time whistle as he admitted there is significant daylight between the teams. "Everything was the difference. Manchester United were a million miles away from that Liverpool team in every department. There isn’t anything you can say about that Manchester United team that can compete with this Liverpool team, on and off the pitch.
"It was a sobering evening, but I think every United fan expected it. I don’t think one United fan came here with one bit of hope whatsoever. But you try and build yourself in that little half an hour pre-kick-off that something could happen, but nothing, that team has got nothing."
The result saw United drop back below Arsenal without the Gunners even having to play a game. The Red Devils now sit sixth, three points adrift off fourth-placed Tottenham but have played one game more. United have also played two games more than Arsenal.
