Residents on 19 streets and in areas of Shreveport, Louisiana, are being told to boil their tap water after several water main breaks lowered pressure in parts of the city's system. The Department of Water and Sewerage issued the precautionary advisory on Sept. 27 and says it will stay in effect until required testing is complete. As of Monday, Sept. 28, the city had not announced that the advisory was lifted.
No contamination has been confirmed. The advisory is a safeguard, not a finding that the water is unsafe. Still, for households with infants, older relatives, or anyone with a weakened immune system, it changes routine tasks such as mixing baby formula, brushing teeth, and making ice until the city gives the all-clear.
