Season 2 of Uncoupled will no longer be moving forward at Showtime. The comedy series, starring Neil Patrick Harris, has been canceled a year after the network picked it up following its initial cancellation at Netflix. The second season faced delays due to the Hollywood strikes and was ultimately scrapped.
Created by Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman, the show featured a cast including Tisha Campbell, Brooks Ashmanskas, Emerson Brooks, and Marcia Gay Harden. The romcom series followed a real estate broker named Michael, played by Harris, who re-enters the New York dating scene after his partner Colin, a hedge fund manager, leaves him after 17 years together.
In an interview, Harris shared that the role allowed him to explore a life similar to his own, living in the same location and in a long-term relationship. He found the concept of portraying a nuanced comedy version of his own life intriguing, pondering how he would respond to a new world in a subtler way.
Uncoupled aimed to blend comedy with the reality of life's ups and downs. Michael, heartbroken over his breakup, navigated the changes in the world over nearly two decades, including the rise of dating apps like Grindr.
Harris reflected on his personal life, mentioning that he and his husband, David Burtka, have been together for 18 years, having started dating and never stopped. He highlighted that he didn't have experiences with dating apps or casual relationships, as he fell in love with Burtka quickly, leading to a strong and enduring relationship with their 11-year-old twins, Harper and Gideon.
Despite the cancellation of Season 2, Uncoupled provided Harris with a platform to explore themes of love, loss, and navigating the complexities of modern relationships in a comedic yet heartfelt manner.
