'Show us something special,' Trump says to Syria as he agrees to lift raft of sanctions

US President Donald Trump has said he will move to normalise relations with Syria's new government and lift sanctions to give the country "a chance at peace."

Trump was set to meet with Syria's interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa in Saudi Arabia, the onetime insurgent who last year led offensive that overthrew long-time leader Bashar al-Assad.
