The Met Office has predicted temperatures reaching as high as 30C this weekend which means we'll be in for a few uncomfortable evenings.
The predicted rise in temperatures has prompted a warning from the UKHSA which is urging people, especially vulnerable groups such as pensioners, to be extra careful over the weekend. People are also being advised to avoid spending to long outside under the intense heat as this can increase the risk of any adverse reactions.
Despite this, high temperatures can make staying at home just as uncomfortable as being outside in the blazing heat, especially when it comes to trying to go bed. When trying to sleep during a hot night it can be tempting to fully open the window in an attempt to get the slightest bit of cool air.

However, this may not always be needed. According to Andy Simms, an expert from MyBuilder.com, there are a variety of ways to prepare your home to keep it cool that may not require to quickly opening your window when you need it most.
For example, installing air conditioning units or improving insulation could help cool down your home over a longer period. “If it’s possible, homeowners should always consider installing longer-term measures to stay cool," Mr Simms said.

"That means good quality insulation, windows and doors, and some shady areas in the garden near windows. While it seems instinctive to keep windows open during hot weather, it may often be more effective to actually close it. This is because rooms can often be cooler than outside so you'll want to shut out any hot air creeping in outside.
You should only consider opening your window when the outside air begins to become cooler so you can let it flow through your room. This is especially useful in the evening when temperatures tend to drop as the cooler temperatures could help you get your beauty sleep.
