The Boston Celtics still have one open roster spot. Having an open position on the roster can create flexibility heading into a new season. However, some high-level talents are still available in free agency. One of the more notable players is Christian Wood, who surprisingly remains available after a disappointing season with the Dallas Mavericks,
Boston’s big-man rotation is already set. The Celtics can call upon Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, or Luke Kornet to fill the center position. However, according to Celtics analyst Adam Taylor, Wood’s offense could make him an ideal addition to the Celtics roster, assuming he would agree to a veteran minimum deal.
“You get that pick and pop, so he’ll fit into Joe Mazzulla’s offense on the perimeter. You get that short roll offense, so he can help create for guys that are cutting baseline or cutting under 45 cuts,” Taylor said. “I think he gives you a little bit of everything you need on the offensive end, right? But he doesn’t give you anything defensively.”
Adding Wood could be a smart move for the Celtics, but it would certainly raise questions regarding Kornet’s long-term future with the franchise, especially as his contract is non-guaranteed heading into the new season.
