Should Boris Johnson resign? We want to hear from you as the Partygate saga drags on

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is in the hot seat yet again amid claims of his attendance at a "Bring Your Own Booze" party during lockdown.

Johnson and his Conservative peers are preparing for what could be more controversy, as the Metropolitan Police begin to send round more fines from another party the Tory leader is accused of attending.

The accusations drop the PM further into hot water amid the looming Sue Gray report, the contents of which have been described as "damning" for Johnson.

The PM will have to wait until after the local elections have concluded on May 5 to find out if he is on the receiving end of a fine from the Metropolitan Police for his alleged attendance at the May 20 event in 2020.

However, the Mirror reports that Johnson has "not yet received a questionnaire over the 'Bring Your Own Booze' lockdown garden party in the Downing Street garden."

No 10 confirmed yesterday that the PM has not received a fixed penalty notice even though police have started sending them out.

As the saga rumbles on Johnson and his colleagues find themselves at the centre of very contentious debate as to whether the Prime Minister is still fit for office.

We want to know what you think of the current issue? Should the Prime Minister continue, or should he step down? What will your opinion be of Johnson should he be fined? Join in with the discussion and voice your opinion in our comment section here.

In an interview with the BBC yesterday, Conservative Party Chairman Oliver Dowden came to the defence of the PM saying: "I understand how people feel really hurt and angry about this, and I think the prime minister acknowledged that properly in what he said - he gave a full and unreserved apology.

"But I think you do need to balance against that first of all the really good things he has done as prime minister, whether that's delivering the vaccine programme, getting Brexit done, or the actions in Ukraine.

"But also the challenges we face right now, whether that's national security, or whether that's energy security - these unparalleled challenges.

"And I actually think that instability and uncertainty caused by a change in leadership would not be in the national interest."

However, Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer has said: " Why are we talking about this? Answer: because the prime minister has broken the rules he made, and been fined by the police for doing it.

"No prime minister in the history of our country has even been in that position before. So he's brought this on himself."

He added: "His moral authority, his authority to lead, is shot through and his own side have now had enough of defending him."

What do you think of the current issue? Should the Prime Minister step down if he is fined? Or is it the wrong time for a new Prime Minister? Let us know what you think in our comments section.
