Authorities are investigating an incident where shots were fired at a Democratic Party coordinated campaign office in Tempe, Arizona. The office, shared by the Harris campaign and others, was targeted in the early hours of Monday morning. The Tempe Police Department responded to a report of criminal damage just after midnight.
Upon arriving at the office near Southern Avenue and Priest Drive, officers found evidence of gunshots through the front window. This marks the second recent incident of damage to the office, with a previous occurrence on Sept. 16 involving shots fired at the front windows with a BB gun or pellet gun.
No individuals were present inside the office during the overnight attack. However, concerns have been raised about the safety of staff and others working in the building and the surrounding area. Public Information Officer Sgt. Ryan Cook emphasized the need for ensuring the safety of all individuals involved.
Law enforcement officials are currently analyzing collected evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The case is being treated as a property crime due to the absence of individuals inside the building at the time of the shooting.
The Mesa Forensic Unit and Tempe Police Department are jointly investigating the matter. The office space is utilized by multiple Democratic Party campaigns, including those supporting Harris and Walz, as well as Senate and House campaigns.
In a statement, DNC Arizona coordinated campaign manager Sean McEnerney expressed gratitude to the Tempe Police for their prompt response and highlighted the importance of ensuring the safety of all individuals involved. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Tempe Police Department to aid in the ongoing investigation.
