NEW YORK — Despite being without 12 players and playing four recently-signed Lakeland Magic players, the Orlando Magic beat the Brooklyn Nets 100-93 on Saturday at the Barclays Center.
The victory ended Orlando’s losing streak at 7 games, giving the Magic (6-25) their second win in December.
Robin Lopez (20 points, 10 rebounds) finished with his first double-double of the season. Franz Wagner stuffed the stat sheet with a career-high 11 rebounds to go along with 14 points and 6 assists.
Gary Harris (17 points) and Chuma Okeke (15 points) were the other Magic players who finished with 10-plus points.
After leading by as many as 17 points in the third, the Nets tied the game at 93 after a David Duke Jr. 3-pointer with 2:33 left in the game.
Okeke made a 3 with 1:11 in the game to put Magic up 96-93 before Wagner made a layup 32 seconds later to give the Magic a five-point lead. Wagner later made two free throws to seal the win for the Magic.
The Magic had 12 players listed as out against the Nets due to injury (7) or the league’s COVID-19 health and safety protocols (5). The Nets were also short-handed, missing 9 players due to the protocols — including Kevin Durant and James Harden — and another 2 to injuries.
