Shoppers surprised as price of teabags soars to £8.25

Shoppers have been left surprised by the price of teabags in a supermarket. Morrisons is currently selling a pack of Yorkshire Tea 240 teabags for £8.25. A photo of the packs was shared in a Facebook group alongside the comment "Is this a joke spotted in Morrisons yesterday box of 240 tea bags!"

The price is confirmed on the Morrisons website, where the pack of 240 is listed for £8.25, reports MEN. The smaller 160 pack is usually £5.99, but is currently on offer for £4, while the pack of 80 is £3.29 and the smallest 40-pack £1.99.

That means that buying two 160-bag packs, at a total of £8 for 320 bags, works out cheaper than buying one 240-bag box. And Morrisons has a 480 bag pouch of Yorkshire Tea teabags for £11 - the same price as Tesco and Iceland and similar to Amazon.

Home Bargains sells 480 bags for £9.99.

A spokesperson for Morrisons said: "This is an unprecedented period of inflation and we are working hard to keep prices down and competitive for our customers. We do have Yorkshire Tea on promotion at the moment, 480 tea bag pack is £11 and the 160 tea bag pack is on promotion at £4."

According to price comparison site trolley.co.uk 240 bag boxes of Yorkshire Tea are being sold for £5.50 by Ocado, £6 at the Co-op, £6.60 at Waitrose and £5 at Sainsbury's where they are on sale and usually sell for £6.30.

Price comparison site mysupermarketcompare says they are £7.70 at Ocado and £6.30 at Asda. Tesco is selling the smaller 210-bag pack for £4.49.
