Huge queues outside Aldi as viral Prime drink 'sold for £12 a pop' goes on sale - one shopper says "it tastes like s***"

These were the queues outside Aldi this morning after the viral Prime drink went on sale at the supermarket. Parents woke at the crack of dawn to get their hands on the beverage, created by Youtube stars KSI and Logan Paul.

Aldi confirmed earlier this week that it would be selling Prime as a Special Buy - but there would be rules in place.

We joined shoppers this morning as they waited for the local store at the Parsonage Retail Park in Leigh to open it's doors at 8am. Within 11 minutes the bottles were all but finished and with rushing late stragglers the drink should be sold out well before midday.

Some people had to be reminded that they were allowed to only buy three bottles to prevent bulk buying but despite the insane popularity of the drink among the youth, parents weren't fans of the taste or the hysteria. One parent who came to pick up a bottle for their child said: "I came to get it for my son, I'm not going to drink it, it tastes like s***." Several other shoppers agreed.

"It's madness, it's just two Youtubers, another added. A second parent, who heard about the sale online and saw it as an opportunity to pay a reasonable price for the drink said: "I saw it on Tik Tok last night that they'll be selling it for £1.99. I've seen some places that were selling it for £12 a pop."

Fans have been desperate to get their hands on the drink, created by YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul, for weeks after it became an internet sensation. Aldi has become the second supermarket in the UK to sell the popular drink and they were also forced to put a limit on sales, restricting customers to just three bottles after it became available in October.

The drink is available in three flavours - Blue Raspberry, Lemon and Lime and Ice Pop - and one 500ml bottle will set customers back £1.99. Shoppers will only be allowed to purchase one of each flavour.

In a statement, Aldi said: "The viral hydration drink created by two popular YouTube stars, KSI and Logan Paul, is available to buy for just £1.99 in Aldi stores nationwide on 29 th December. The drink will be a Specialbuy – and as with all Specialbuys, once they’re gone, they’re gone!

"The supermarket is expecting high demand so a purchase limit of one of each variant per customer has been set to ensure as many people as possible get the opportunity to buy the product."

When the drink launched in Asda earlier this year, the MEN attempted to track it down in Greater Manchester stores but could only find empty shelves. Families reportedly queued from around 5am to get their hands on the drink.

The drink is 10 per cent coconut water and contains electrolytes and B vitamins. It has zero sugar and around 20 calories per bottle, Aldi said.
