I’m going on holiday to Portugal next month, and somehow my TikTok algorithm just knows. In the last couple of weeks, my feed has been flooded with summer styling videos, and one particular dress keeps cropping up time and time again.
Priced at £39, the Beige Linen Midi Dress from River Island seems to be a popular piece among content creators, who have been featuring it in ‘new in at River Island’, shopping hauls and more.
First launched in spring, many customers complained about it selling out so quickly, but it’s now back in stock in two different colours - and is perfect for those looking to curate a capsule wardrobe this summer.

One shopper, called Laura, helps other women in their 40s by offering styling inspiration on her page My Capsule Wardrobe. In a recent video, she tried on the linen midi dress, and shoppers rushed to snap it up for themselves.
In the clip, she tried on a number of spring summer looks, commenting: “If you are in your 40s and struggle with what to wear, then so do I. I’m building a capsule wardrobe in my 40s… The aim is to wear them again and again and again.”
After trying on the £39 midi, she added: “This dress! I’m not lying, I nearly cried when I put it on. It’s so flattering. It also comes in black. That’s coming home with me. Well done River Island.”
Shoppers were left swooning over the piece, some even having bought it for themselves: “I have the dress and wore it with a hat from RI as well, super comfy!” said one, while another wrote: “I bought the dress in both colours. They are such a fabulous fit.
A third added: “The dress looks great on you, you’re showing it off better than the website.” with a fourth writing: “Love that dress, so flattering!”
Some shoppers have previously found River Island a bit hit and miss, saying: “River Island is a love hate for me. They have some unreal pieces and then some are covered in pearls and their logo.”
Available in sizes six to 18, the dress comes in beige and black. Offering a crew neck, loose fit and sleeveless design, it’s ideal for keeping cool in the heat, with a button back fastening and elasticated waist for comfort.
Linen is one of the best fabrics to wear for summer, according to Shadmaan Kader, the manager of Poundametre.
