Residents in Mansfield are hoping that plans for a new bingo centre will help to restore life back into their town centre.
The development for the new adult gaming site, in West Gate, Mansfield, will be located on the ground floor of the town's Primary Shopping Frontage - Mansfield's "primary shopping area."
Developers say that the bingo hall will also help to create new long-term job opportunities and investment in the local economy.
The application was granted my Mansfield District Council on Thursday, February 3.
Now, residents have expressed excitement at the possibility of new "life" in Mansfield.
Janet Thompson, 67, retired, said: "Fingers crossed it's going ahead because I love playing bingo.
"I'd say the town definitely has needed something like this for a while.
"Whether it will get people excited about Mansfield I'm not sure, we'll see, but it's something different and that's good enough for me.
"The town centre isn't what it used to be at all. It needs life, it needs more people and it needs some change.
"I'll certainly be visiting."
Joyce Rigley, 85, said: "The bingo centre could make an impact in the town.
"Currently the town is mainly full of just empty shops so who knows maybe this will get more people into the town.
"We might need something like that because now it's just mainly charity shops and hairdressers.
"A few new big name shops would also be nice. It might help even out the place.
"This used to be a thriving market town, now it's gone kaput!
"If I can and need to though I still come into town to do my shopping.
"I don't play much bingo but hopefully this is a nice addition."
West Gate is one of the better-known streets in Mansfield, with a McDonald's, Mansfield Central Library and the Four Seasons shopping centre also located on the road.
Karen Smith, 59, said: "I can't say I play bingo but I've heard about the development and yes hopefully it will be something the town needs.
"It needs change, all you see walking through the town is charity shops.
"I visit the town if I need to but sometimes you get scared walking around here now.
"It's not something I'll be going along to but it might help Mansfield."
