Shoppers can rent Lucy Fallon’s 'beautiful' wedding guest-ready ASOS dress for £20

Shoppers who begged ex-Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon to reveal where she bought her ‘beautiful’ summer dress in a recent Instagram post can now rent the floral number for just £20.

The actress, best known for playing Bethany Platt in the soap, stunned in a £65 ASOS dress while on holiday in Dubai. The new mum was flooded with compliments from fans and former colleagues, including Helen Flanagan and Ellie Louise Leach, saying how 'beautiful' she looked.

Never one to gatekeep, the 27-year-old shared the link on her Instagram stories with her 555,000 followers, with customers snapping up the ASOS DESIGN ruched waist plunge mini dress in the sale for £52.

But now, fashion lovers can hire the dress for a fraction of the price - perfect for summer weddings, holidays and occasions where you may only wear it once.

Instead of paying full price for the piece to then sit in the wardrobe for two years before inevitably being sold on Depop or Vinted for £10, shoppers can ‘borrow’ the dress through a rental site.

It comes as ASOS launched its first occasionwear edit with Hirestreet - including dresses, co-ord’s and jumpsuits, which is better for your bank balance and the environment.

Shoppers can rent out items in the ASOS collection for four, 10 or 30 days and prices start from just £17, and vary depending on how long you choose to hire the item(s) for.

The ASOS DESIGN ruched waist plunge mini dress , as seen on Lucy Fallon, has a ruffle skirt and open back detail, coming in a blurred floral print. With a v-neck, volume sleeves and cut out panel.

Coming in sizes six to 16, it can be rented out from as little as £20 - saving shoppers more than 60 per cent on the original RRP. It’s even cheaper than purchasing one secondhand, with one listed on Vinted for £40 plus postage.

It’s the perfect dress for summer holidays , like Lucy’s, or for upcoming social occasions like weddings or a trip to the races.

Nick Drewe, retail expert at Wethrift, commented on the recent move for ASOS, and why we will likely see other major retailers adopting a similar model. He said: “Sustainability is continually becoming a significant factor in the world of fashion, and several major fashion retailers are adapting to cater to their customers' changing views and needs.

“However, sustainable shopping can prove more expensive than fast-fashion shopping. Despite being ethically and sustainably conscious when it comes to shopping and fashion, many consumers will be struggling to financially afford to shop sustainably at current.

“This is why ASOS tapping into the rental market is an extremely smart move, especially when it comes to occasion and wedding wear, which would typically be a high expense purchase. At a fraction of the retail price, shoppers can now rent ASOS occasion wear from just £20 for 4 days.

“As well as wedding guest attire, shoppers can even hire bridal and bridesmaid outfits from ASOS. Typically, these types of outfits would only be worn on one occasion, which from a cost perspective, makes them expensive. Hiring the outfits, instead of buying them to be worn once, is much more practical from a sustainability perspective, as well as keeping overall costs down, in a time when shoppers are more money conscious than ever."

Alongside ASOS, there's plenty more brands to take advantage of on Hirestreet including Nobody's Child, Lavish Alice, Reformation and Rat & Boa. You can rent out everything from stylish dresses and co-ords to jumpsuits and more for a fraction of the usual price. But they're not the only rental retailer available, with sites like Hurr and By Rotation also allowing shoppers to hire outfits for limited times.

You can shop the ASOS rental collection here, or, if you did want to buy the dress to keep, it’s still available in all sizes on ASOS.
