A woman on social media has shared her results after doing the same shop at two different supermarkets - leaving people reconsidering where to buy their food.
Thanks to the cost of living crisis and the skyrocketing price of food, shoppers may lean towards budget supermarkets such as Lidl for picking up their groceries.
Other shops like M&S have long been seen as more of an 'upmarket' option, but recently the retailer has surprised people with its low prices.
To see how much people could really save when picking up a few bits, @katsaves headed to both shops and carried out a price comparison for a few different items - and there were a few major differences.
Manchester Evening News reports that the money-saving content creator decided on a couple of different items on which to base her comparison - carrots, cucumber, milk, chicken, and microwaveable rice.
She headed to the supermarkets to see which one came out cheaper. The first item Kat checked out was carrots which were priced at 50p for 1kg in both Lidl and M&S.
For the second item, again the price was the same for both with a single cucumber adding only 75p to her grocery bill. For milk, the TikToker found two pints of semi-skimmed would cost her £1.30, again in both stores.
However, the items after this were where things began to change. Kat went to pick up some chicken legs and in M&S the cost was £2 per kilogram.
In total, this pack size was 600g and it cost £1.20. In Lidl, she found it was actually more expensive with the price sitting at £2.09 per kilogram. She paid £2.09 for a 1kg pack.
The same thing happened when Kat checked out the microwavable rice, with a packet costing 65p for 250g in M&S - but the price rose to 99p for 280g in the Germain discount store.
Overall, Kat's shop in the upmarket M&S cost her £5.20 but her shop in Lidl, which is known for its budget prices, actually cost her slightly more at £5.63.
In the comments, some people pointed out how Kat could have slashed down her bill at Lidl and made it cheaper.
Commenters noticed that the microwavable rice she chose out was actually "branded" and claimed Lidl's own brand was a lot less at between 30p and 50p.
One person commented: "This is not a fair comparison you chose branded rice in Lidl Vs unbranded in m&s."
Another said: "I've seen much cheaper rice than that in Lidl, otherwise its interesting to see the comparison!"
But some people were reconsidering their shopping ways after watching Kat's video, with one person writing: "Can I finally become an M&S girlie?"
Another said: "Lidl is too expensive now and it's funny how people think it's cheap."
And a third agreed: "The quality of M&S is soo good as well. I buy all my fruit & veg from there bc it lasts so much longer."
