Shop selling ‘best fried chicken in the Toon’ makes its debut at Newcastle Restaurant Week

NE1’s Restaurant Week has returned to Newcastle after a two-year break due to Covid, bringing people out in droves to eat out for less.

A grand total of 77 restaurants are taking part in the event which sees food venues put special menus on offer where guests can dine for a cheaper price than usual, with fixed price points this year of £10, £15 or £20 per person.

15 new venues who opened during the two years since the last Restaurant Week took place have signed up to take part for the very first time.

FED’s Fried Chicken is one of the city’s new venues making its debut at the event. After opening just over sixteen months ago, each lunchtime the shop now sees customers flock to the Grainger Market shop to get their hands on what they describe as “Newcastle’s finest fried chicken”.

FED’s offers sweet tea brined chicken tenders, fried in their special spice mix recipe, in a variety of sandwiches - from the High Rise that comes with hash brown, American cheese, pickles and crispy onions, to the Pasadena, which is served up with Jalapeno cheese, pickled red onions, cheese puff crumb and signature FED’s sauce.

Their Restaurant Week offer gives customers the chance to grab any sandwich with fries, a side and a soft drink for £10.

FED’s also serves up their signature fried chicken in Louie’s Liquor Store in the Bigg Market, where diners can make the most of more Restaurant Week deals.

The £10 Louie’s Larder offer is for any FED’s sandwich with fries and chipotle barbecue wings - or customers can upgrade to the £15 Louie’s Bigg Plate and add a beer or cocktail to the deal.

“We started outside the height of lockdown, so that was a bit of a tricky time for us,” admits Camille Nguty, manager of FED’s. “But we’ve made it through, and it’s fantastic.

“I think we’re probably one of the best chicken shops in the North East.”
