Detective Chief Inspector Paul Grounds from the firearm investigations team at Merseyside Police is urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward. He added police are looking to piece together the incident.

DCI Grounds said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the area shortly before 8.15pm on Thursday night and witnessed the incident or saw anything suspicious, to contact police as soon as possible. We have spoken to people in the local area but are sure that more information is out there.

“Although this incident was not reported at the time, we are looking to piece together the circumstances and find those responsible. If you have any dashcam or doorbell footage, please review it and let us know if you see anything that may assist our enquiries.

"Firearms have absolutely no place on our streets and we are committed to removing them and the people who choose to carry them. Any gun fired in our communities has the potential to cause devastation. It is essential that we get all information from communities who are left feeling the impact of gun crime, so we can bring those responsible to justice.

“Speak to us directly or anonymously and we will take firm action to remove dangerous weapons from our communities.”

Anyone who witnessed the shooting on Thursday night or has CCTV footage and any information about what happened is asked to contact police.
