
Whether you live in Clapham or Clapton, Kensington or Kensal Rise, there’s no escaping the cult of 5K runners, Park Run lovers or marathon obsessives who take to the streets and patches of greenery every morning no matter the weather to prove their sporting superiority.
Years ago, during the first lockdown, I was one such devotee for a short-lived moment in time. Having guilted myself into the Couch to 5K challenge that had been taking social media by storm – a challenge which I firmly believe is the reason we’re still battling for pavement priority over speed demons to this day – I’d attempt to slowly build my tolerance to longer runs, AirPods not-so-firmly placed in my ears to help escape the sheer boredom and monotony of the activity.
