Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Dodgers star, recently took to social media to unveil the identity of his new wife, Mamiko Tanaka, a former professional basketball player. The revelation came through a photo posted on Ohtani's Instagram account, where he was seen standing next to Tanaka in front of an airplane, accompanied by his teammate Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
The Dodgers also shared a photo of the newlyweds on the team's official account, alongside another picture featuring Mookie Betts and his wife. Additionally, a video surfaced showing Dodgers players and their families boarding a plane bound for South Korea, with Ohtani and Tanaka among them.
Earlier in February, Ohtani surprised fans by announcing his marriage to 'a normal Japanese woman' whom he had known for a few years. However, he had kept her identity and details of their wedding under wraps until now.
Tanaka, aged 27, previously played for the Fujitsu Red Wave in the Women's Japan Basketball League from 2019 to 2023. Meanwhile, Ohtani, aged 29, is set to make his debut as a designated hitter for the Dodgers in their upcoming game against the San Diego Padres in Seoul. Due to elbow surgery last fall, Ohtani will not be pitching this season.
