A shocking video has emerged of a man being brutally attacked in the middle of a bustling Cork city street.
Appalled bystanders witnessed the incident on MacCurtain St at around 9pm on Thursday night.
The footage shows a man on the ground being kicked and punched with at least four people around him.
People watched on and traffic sat back as the altercation went on for a number of minutes, as Cork Beo reports.
At a number of points people appear to try and intervene to stop it, but are then met with an aggressive reaction.
A second altercation also appears to break out between two men while another lay on the street hurt.
As the attackers go out of shot people can then be seen going in to check on the victim and helping him to the footpath.
Gardai arrived at the scene soon after and dispersed the crowd with a spokesperson confirming an investigation has now been opened.
They said: "Gardaí are investigating a public order incident at MacCurtain Street, Cork, yesterday evening, Thursday 19th May 2022.
"Gardaí received reports of a number of individuals fighting at this location and attended the scene. Upon arrival Gardaí directed those present to disperse from the area. No arrests have been made at this time. Investigations are ongoing."
