Shocking footage from the Dundee riots show feral youths wreaking havoc in the city as shielded officers descend onto several incidents.
Terrifying videos show masked teenagers launching fireworks from across the road and into blazes last night as chaos unfolded on Halloween. Unidentifiable youths were filmed climbing and jumping on top of cars while roads were torched near family homes.
In one clip, a mob of around 20 are seen pelting fireworks on a main road as smoke and bright sparks illuminated the street. The teens are then heard laughing and chanting as sparks fly beside vehicles and houses.
Two fire engines and a police helicopter were drafted to the scene in response to several incidents. Riot cops are seen in one clip bearing shields and batons on the city's Balgowan Avenue at around 5.30pm.
Firefighters currently remain at the scene after working through the night to contain the chaos. It is currently unknown if any injuries have been caused as a result of the riots.
Leader of Dundee City Council, Councillor John Alexander, has blasted those responsible as 'absolutely disgusting'.
Posting on Facebook, Mr Alexander said: “This reckless behaviour endangers lives, with emergency vehicles unable to pass on Balgowan Avenue and it costs residents and every taxpayer money. I hope that every single one of those individuals responsible is identified and dealt with appropriately.
“Given the age of many of those in the videos and images (I guess), I expect that parents will be equally as outraged and questioning their children, if they knew they were out in that area tonight. Where were your kids tonight? Please ask them.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at around 5.30pm on Monday, October 31 to an incident near to Beauly Square, Dundee. Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances to assist emergency service partners and crews are still in attendance.”
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “We were called around 5.30pm on Monday to a report of a disturbance in the Balgowan Avenue and Old Glamis Road area of Dundee.”
