Shocking Dublin city centre group attack leaves man fighting for life as gardai seek video footage

A young man is fighting for his life after being seriously assaulted by a group of men in Dublin city centre.

The horrific attack happened during the early hours of this morning, with emergency services called to the scene at Anne Street South - just off Grafton Street - after 1.30am.

The victim, a man aged in his early 20s, was taken to St James’s Hospital and has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital.

His condition is understood to be critical but stable at this time.

Gardai say he was injured “in the course of an incident involving a number of males”.

The scene is currently preserved for examination by Garda crime officers and local enquiries are ongoing.

An appeal has been launched for witnesses and anyone with video footage to come forward.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai at Pearse Street are appealing for witnesses following the serious assault of a man in Dublin City on Sunday 5th March, 2023.

“Emergency Services were alerted shortly after 1:30am after a man in his 20s was seriously injured in the course of an incident involving a number of males on Anne Street South, Dublin 2.

“The injured man was removed from the scene to St James's Hospital by Ambulance and has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital where his condition is understood to be critical but stable.

“The scene is preserved for examination by Garda scenes of crime officers and local enquiries are ongoing.

“Investigating gardai are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward. They are particularly appealing to those with video footage from the Anne Street South area at the time of the incident to make it available to them.”
