Shocking amount of Americans hold some form of vaccine skepticism

  • A new Public First poll by Politico found that nearly half (46%) of U.S. adults are somewhat skeptical of vaccines, believing the facts are still up for debate and enforcing uptake is damaging.
  • In contrast, only 39% of respondents believe vaccine science is clear and that questioning it is harmful, indicating a significant public opinion divide.
  • The survey revealed a strong partisan split, with 60% of Republicans favoring administering fewer vaccines compared to just 30% of Democrats.
  • Notably, 39% of respondents would allow vaccine-preventable diseases to return rather than force people to have vaccines, a view held by 49% of Republicans.
  • Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a known vaccine skeptic, has overseen policy changes, including the elimination of Covid-19 vaccine recommendations and directing changes to language refuting vaccine-autism links.
