Shock as family of Katie Allan who took her own life in Polmont prison could be forced to withdraw from inquiry

The family of a young woman who took her own life in 2018 while serving a 16-month prison sentence for a drink-driving offence could be forced to withdraw from a fatal accident inquiry into her death over legal aid funds being denied.

Katie Allan, 21, from Giffnock, and William Lindsay, 16, took their own lives while at Polmont Young Offenders Institute in 2018.

Solicitor Aamer Anwar, acting on behalf of the families, said Katie’s parents Linda and Stuart had been informed their application for legal funding would be denied as they were over the threshold to be considered.
